Carp-i-vore™ from Bohning

When I started bowfishing, I equipped my bow with a reel and bowfishing arrow. I was using a three point bristle arrow rest that was part of the original bow setup. Since bowfishing arrows are much heavier than hunting arrows, the bottom bristle started to wear down. This became a problem since the arrow could fall to the side of the rest, creating a hassle to re-load, a missed shot or possibly a hazardous situation should the stop-screw bracket on the arrow hit the rest.

I found a solution when I found the Carp-i-vore™ from Bohning. The Carp-i-vore™ is the first and only fully-adjustable rest that combines the speed of a roller rest and the security of a capture rest. When I use the Carp-i-vore™, I know that my arrow is ready to go at any moment no matter when the shot opportunity happens. Speed is imperative when it comes to bowfishing and with the easy top load design I can nock an arrow, drop it in, and shoot within mere seconds.

Carp-i-vore™

Carp-i-vore™ from Bohning offers speed and security.Carp-i-vore™ is reversible for right or left-handed shooters and features vertical and horizontal adjustments making it perfect for any bowfishing set up. It is easy to install and can be set up in minutes.

Carp-i-vore™ has the option to change out the roller for a third set of bristles. The side bristles are also replaceable. I have never had my arrow fall out of the rest or fall to the side of the roller; even with running from the front to the back of the boat or twisting around for some tricky angles from shore or boat.

One of the hardest parts about archery for many archers is keeping yourself from focusing on “NOT” missing, when we should be focusing on where we want the arrow to hit.

The Shield Archery Backstop by B.U.P. Sports allows you to focus on hitting your target without having to worry about missing the target and losing an arrow. The Shield is beneficial for both seasoned archers and those just beginning to get into the sport.

From teaching beginners to testing how far you can shoot, The Shield can help you from losing your valuable arrows. The other benefit of The Shield is that you can use the corners of your targets which were previously unused because missing meant losing an arrow or wasted valuable time searching for that arrow. The Shield will not only extend the life of your target, it will save you time and money from missed targets and lost arrows.

Although The Shield is tough enough to stop an arrow, it is gentle on arrows and allows for easy removal. The manufacturer recommends placing The Shield at least the length of your arrow away from any walls, fences, etc., as the arrow can go through the backstop about half way. The diameter of the practice tip should be no greater than that of the arrow.

The Shield stops all types of arrows with field tips, tested to 370 feet per second (narrow shaft carbon tested). It is not made to be used with broad heads or crossbows; however you can special order a crossbow backstop. The Shield is made of multi-layered recycled plastic fibers positioned in such a way that they stop the arrows energy much like a bullet proof vest. This is covered with industrial felt with fabric web loops around the perimeter. The Shield does not include a stand but can be easily set up by hanging or leaning against your target.

Porkchop Hog Decoy by Boar Down Decoy Company

Boardown.jpg When I first saw the Porkchop Hog Decoy by Boar Down my very first thought was “That is genius!” As hunters, we use decoys for just about every other animal and there was a need for hog decoys too! I had to have one of the “first and only 3-D hog decoys” on the market today.

Feral hogs feel more secure about approaching an area if there is already a hog there. The Porkchop hog decoy was designed to give hogs the confidence to approach and can be a huge advantage in both hunting and trapping of hogs.  Boar Down has put much research and design into the Porkchop hog decoy in order to produce a quality, lifelike product to lure in feral hogs.  The body of the decoy is made of 12-mill foam with taxidermy quality eyes giving the decoy a lifelike design. The coloring and hair pattern of the coat creates a very realistic look. The decoy is the size of a young hog making the decoy perfect for bringing in mature boars but not too large to intimidate a young group of hogs.

The decoy is secured into the ground with a two-piece metal stake secured by a wing nut in the middle of the decoys back making it easy to set-up in the field. The middle stake design allows the decoy to make non-aggressive movement by wind. The decoy is very light and easily folds down for stowing and transporting in the field.

The MSRP of the Porkchop hog decoy is $59.98 and can be purchased at www.boardown.com. You can keep up with harvests and news on Boar Down’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BoarDown.

I cannot wait for the opportunity to hog hunt with this decoy this summer. It is definitely essential gear for hog hunting that I never knew I was missing and I won’t be without it on my next hog hunt. Stay tuned for an update from the field on the success of this great decoy!
