You may see Mercer Island as the retreat of the rich, with boutique shops and gigantic houses that sprawl across the shore and across its landscape. What you may not see, however, is a jewel of a park on the eastern edge that is open to all and well worth an extended visit.

Luther Burbank Park features 3/4 of a mile of shoreline and 77 acres of mixed wetlands, meadows, and man-made features. There are beautiful buildings, a nice playground, an ampitheater, tennis courts, a swimming area, an off-leash dog park, and some quirky touches like large-scale artwork and the remains of a large dairy barn (which are excellent for hide-and-seek!).

If you have a chance, stop by and wander its many pathways and explore the variety of features that this beautiful park has to offer.
