With the spring upon us and thoughts leaping forward to summer camping adventures, it’s the perfect time to put out our recommendations for good Washington locations! Pack your vehicle, throw in the kids and pets, and have an adventure at any one of these wonderful local treasures.

Best Campgrounds:

Deception Pass State Park (9 miles north of Oak Harbor, WA) – Beautiful beaches, old-growth forests, and gorgeous views plus 38 miles of hiking trails.

Features: Boat ramp, fishing, swimming, playground, interpretive center/museum

Dosewallips State Park (40 miles north of Shelton on the shore of Hood Canal) – Freshwater and saltwater shorelines located close to the Olympic National Park and other great attractions.

Features: Boating, fishing, clamming, crabbing, oysters, swimming, SCUBA diving

Fort Flagler State Park (8 miles northeast of Port Hadlock, WA on the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula) – Loads of historic buildings and fun places to explore, along with nice beaches and mountain views.

Ike Kinswa State Park (4 miles north of Mossyrock, WA) – Located on the shores of beautiful Mayfield Lake in southwest WA, this park has great old-growth looks and a very family friendly layout.

Fort Ebey State Park (Whidbey Island, 2 miles north of Coupeville, WA) – Old military structures beg for exploration and activities abound at this lovely beachfront park.

Features: Surfing, para-gliding, 28 miles of hiking trails, 28 miles of mountain biking trails, fishing
