From Brian:

“I and 54 other hardy souls accompanied the Outdoors Ministry on their Sun Peaks, Canada ski trip. After getting settled into our accommodations, we all came together in one of the condos for dinner. While waiting in the food line, a guy named Jamie asked me about my digital SLR camera. It didn’t take long to discover our shared passion for photography.

A couple people on the trip mentioned they were considering a snow-shoe outing. I wanted to participate, but I didn’t have any snow shoes. However, Jamie came to my rescue. He wanted to relax at the condo that day, so he let me use his pair. I had a great time on the trek thanks to Jamie’s generosity.

On the ride back home I noticed an open seat across the aisle from Jamie. I sat down, and we picked up our conversation where it had left off. Again we found a common interest: espresso. Each of us had researched the web to find the latest in barista gadgets, so we compared notes on our discoveries. He even had the same espresso grinder that I was thinking about purchasing. In turn, I advised him where to find the best espresso beans in Seattle. Excited about our newfound coffee knowledge, our conversation got around to where we lived. I told him I owned a home in Lynnwood, and he said, “Hey, my wife and I live in Lynnwood too.” We shared addresses, and finally realized that we lived only two doors apart!

It was exciting to discover that Jamie is my neighbor, and that we shared some common interests. Since the ski trip, we’ve watched some college basketball on his big-screen TV and tested his espresso grinder on Seattle’s finest beans. I even helped him get his photograph of The Northern Conspiracy published in the previous issue of Vox Pop. So the next time you sit by someone at a service or event, be the one to reach out. You never know who you might find!”

From Aaron:

“Sun Peaks is a special place for my wife and I, because I met her there on the Mars Hill Sun Peaks trip 3 yrs ago. Going back reminds us of God’s amazing providence. It’s always fun for us to go back to Sun Peaks, and his trip was no exception. It was a great time of fellowship, fun, and snowboarding.”
